What if you knew that understanding your personal connection to the wind could help you find love, soothe troubling relationships, bring career advancement and financial reward, improve your physical and spiritual health, and reduce that yucky thing we call stress? And that’s just naming a few possibilities! While teaching WindWork® over the past ten years, more than 32 wind deities were revealed to me, all of whom continuously help me navigate my life, and I now feel held by Spirit like I never thought possible. After years of shamanic teachings, spiritual searching, and recovery from my own addiction demons, I have now learned to “Whistle up a Wind” for guidance and direction and so can you. It’s simple.
Wind deities have always played a prominent role in mythology. Enlil decrees the fate of humans, the Aztec wind god Ehécatl arouses passion, the Basque Goddess Mari is summoned when we are lost, Cardea shuts what’s open, and opens what’s closed. In the North Americas, multiple Wind Deities give life and offer protection.
In more primitive times when common language defined tribal boundaries, people were wind believers. Farmers, sailors, and nomads relied on the wind to help guide them in all areas of their lives. Blessed winds were “whistled up” to germinate seed for nourishment, seamen consulted wind witches to string together magical knots for conjuring varying breezes, and prevailing winds were the compass for hunter-gatherers to migrate and find food.
The Wind Work® system is a powerful wayfinding tool that will transport you to your best self. You will have fun discovering how wonderful your life will feel by simply opening yourself up to the embrace of the healing winds that encircle you at every moment of your existence.
The Cardinal winds – Eurus-East, Notus-South, Zephurus- West, and Boreas-North – are major points on the compass rose developed by sailors. Fragments of text found on Mesopotamian cuneiform assure us that Cardinal winds were recorded in 14th Century BCE. The Cardinal winds are enduring time-space markers found in oral traditions, compasses, and literature, and can provide a consistent structure for determining your coordinates. The wind is the constant in life from your first breath to your last. By focusing your awareness on these robust and formidable forces of nature, you will have the tools you need for reaching your goals.
Let’s get started. Use this Greek Wind meditation to help you locate your center of gravity. From there, you have the capacity to collaborate with the shifting winds to gently deliver you to your desired location.
Calling-In or Improving an Existing Relationship
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart with knees slightly bent. Close your eyes and gently inhale deeply into your belly (through your nose if possible). The air you inhale is the wind which has traveled around the planet lovingly collecting the energy you need to feed your hopes and dreams. Slowly exhale tension, fear, and worry. Imagine your feet as tree roots reaching deep into the center of Mother Earth, the source of the planet’s magnetic field. Allow this magnetic energy to arise and energize the center of your body.
Begin in the East: Belief about a Relationship
This could be about a business partner, love interest, family member, or friend.
Call to Eurus, the East Wind, to enhance a belief about what will foster a better or new relationship.
Examples: I am worthy of a loving and respectful partner, or I am valued.
Eurus is responsible for beliefs, ideas, and new beginnings. Feel Eurus move through you and instill a new “aha” thought.
Next, Face the South: Feeling about a Relationship
Look for a positive feeling around a relationship such as joy, happiness, passion, compassion, commitment, devotion, or enthusiasm.
Call to Notus, the South Wind, to enhance a feeling that will foster a better or new relationship. As the wind moves through all the cells of your body, feel the love.
Look to the West: Harvesting Your Relationship Dreams
What do you want to Harvest from this Relationship? A marriage proposal, a raise, a friendship, or a stronger commitment?
Call in Zephyrus, the playful Wind of the West. Visualize your life being rearranged to make space for bountiful rewards.
Face the North: Spiritual Life
Lastly, visualize how this could benefit your spiritual life or community. Consider volunteering, develop a new business project, deepen your connection to the spiritual communities that “touch” you.
Call to Boreas, the bone-chilling North Wind. Visualize yourself being carried beyond the furthest mountain. Feel the expansion in your heart and soul.
Return to your surroundings. Pay attention to your “dream signs” during the next week. They will let you know what has shifted. Notice who crosses your path and how relationships magically appear, or sometimes necessarily disappear, in your daily life.
