Earlier this week, I stood beneath an ancient oak, its wide branches swaying in the wind. The breeze was steady, even relentless—but the oak did not bend. It held its ground, roots deepening with every gust.

That moment reminded me: opposition isn’t always an obstacle. Sometimes, it’s the very force that makes us stronger.

Too often, we’re taught to fear resistance. Whether it’s a creative block, a broken promise, or an internal voice of doubt—we tense up, shut down, or try to push through it. But what if we’re meant to engage with resistance, not escape it? What if it’s sacred?

This question came alive for me during the first session of The Dynamic Winds of Creativity, a five-part series I’m teaching this summer. In our opening circle, we journeyed to the spirit of Opposition—that force in nature and within ourselves that pushes back, applies pressure, or disrupts our plans.

What we discovered was not a foe, but a mirror.

That week, life delivered some hard truths. Promises unraveled. Old wounds reopened. Yet through the lens of the wind, I didn’t collapse. I listened. I remembered that resistance, when honored, deepens our roots.

Wind as Teacher
The wind doesn’t argue. It meets us fully—and invites us to meet it the same way. In nature, resistance isn’t failure. It’s form. It’s strength. It’s the friction that initiates transformation.

When we work with wind as an ally, it teaches us how to stay present in the face of tension. How to move without forcing. How to listen, soften, and realign.

Simple Practices for Meeting Opposition

If you’re feeling resistance right now—creatively, emotionally, or spiritually—try these simple Wind Walk®-inspired practices. You don’t need hours or special tools. Just a willingness to be present.

1. Tighten and Release

Start in the body. Gently clench your fists, hunch your shoulders, or contract your whole body. Hold for a few breaths. Then exhale and release. Feel what softens. Notice what stays. Resistance often lives in the body—this helps it move.

2. Walk It Into the Wind

When something is weighing on you, take it outside. Walk directly into the wind while holding the thought. Let the wind meet it. Then, turn around—walk away from the wind—and notice what shifts as you release it behind you.

3. Be With What’s Here

Stand outside, even for two minutes. Feel the air on your skin. Listen to the trees. Sense your feet on the earth. Don’t try to solve anything. Just be. This is how presence begins.

4. Wind Notes

After your practice, write down a word, image, or feeling that came through. Not a whole journal entry—just a whisper from the wind.

Resistance Is a Compass, Not a Wall

When we view resistance through the lens of Wind Wisdom, it stops being something to conquer—and becomes something to collaborate with. It points us toward what’s ready to shift, what needs to be seen, and where new stories want to emerge.

If you’re looking for a deeper way to explore this work, the Wind Walker’s Wisdom Oracle offers elemental guidance and creative prompts to help you navigate transitions. It’s a tool I created for times exactly like this—when the path gets tangled, and we need help hearing the next right step.

And if you missed the first session of The Dynamic Winds of Creativity, it’s not too late to join. The replay is available, and the next session is just around the corner. We’ll continue moving through the full creative cycle—from Chaos to Gestation—with live teachings, shamanic journeys, and nature-based practices designed to rekindle your inner compass.

Walk with Nature. Walk with Spirit.
As we settle deeper into the heart of summer, let yourself be shaped—not shaken—by the winds. Resistance is not your enemy. It’s your teacher, your mirror, your guide.
