A Personal Awakening: The Blackbird’s Message
One morning, I walked into my kitchen by the industrial chef’s stove and to my astonishment, a blackbird perched silently inside the window. I was perplexed, especially since I had renovated the house, which once harbored an attic full of pigeons, and I had diligently sealed off every entry point. My mind wrestled with how the bird had managed to enter. As I opened the windows to release it, the event lingered with me—an omen, perhaps. My curiosity led me to discover that blackbirds are often harbingers of messages, sometimes even those as somber as death. This knowledge resonated deeply just weeks later, when unexpected tragedies struck my family.
Shamanism was uncharted territory for me back then. Even as I mentally envisioned guiding a dying friend across a river to meet a figure reminiscent of the grim reaper, my experience with the spiritual practice was nonexistent. Those early encounters, which once puzzled me, have proven to be pivotal in preparing me for the role I play today.
